ACL Rehab Class Dublin
Structured Rehabilitation After ACL Surgery
ACL surgery repairs the ligament.
Rehabilitation determines how strong and capable your knee becomes afterwards.
The weeks between 6 and 16 weeks post-surgery are one of the most important phases of recovery. This is when strength is rebuilt, movement patterns are restored, and the foundation for running and sport begins.
At Resync Physiotherapy, our ACL Rehab Class provides structured, physiotherapist-led rehabilitation in a small group environment designed specifically for this stage of recovery.
This is not a generic exercise class.
It is a professionally guided rehabilitation program designed to prepare your knee for the Second phase of Rehab and set the foundation for your to return to sport.
We Run Two Classes Depending on the Stage of Rehab You Are At
ACL1 – Building The Foundations week 6- 16 post op
ACL1 focuses on getting the basics extremely well established.
This stage prioritises:
- Restoring quad strength
- Rebuilding hamstring strength
- Developing calf strength
- Improving hip and adductor stability
- Reinforcing proper movement patterns
The focus is precision and control.
This stage ensures the knee develops the strength and stability needed for more advanced training later.
ACL2 – Strength And Performance – Week 16 to 24
ACL2 is designed for patients who have already rebuilt foundational strength and are ready to progress further.
This stage focuses on:
- Higher strength development
- Advanced single-leg control
- Increased loading through the knee
- Preparing for running and athletic movement
ACL2 bridges the gap between basic rehabilitation and the later return-to-sport phase.
The Resync Approach to ACL Rehabilitation
At Resync Physiotherapy, rehabilitation is structured and progressive.
Our ACL Rehab Classes bridges the gap between early physiotherapy and the later return-to-sport phase.
Each session is physiotherapist-led and limited to six participants, allowing close coaching and individual progression.
The focus is on rebuilding the qualities your knee needs to progress safely through rehabilitation.
Phase 1
Protect & Restore Movement
0 – 6 Weeks Post Surgery
Focus:
- Reduce swelling
- Restore knee extension and flexion
- Begin gentle muscle activation
- Rebuild basic walking mechanics
Goal:
Restore basic knee function and protect the healing graft
Phase 2 (ACL 1 Class)
Strength Foundation
6 – 16 Weeks Post Surgery
This is where structured strengthening begins.
Focus:
- Rebuilding quadriceps strength
- Developing hamstring strength
- Strengthening calves, hips and adductors
- Restoring movement control
This is the stage where many patients benefit from structured rehabilitation classes like the Resync ACL Rehab Class.
Goal:
Build the strength foundation needed for higher level rehab
Phase 3 (ACL 2 Class)
Running Preparation
4 – 6 Months
Once strength benchmarks are reached, patients begin preparing for running.
Focus:
- Impact tolerance
- Dynamic knee control
- Progressive running drills
Typical rehab includes:
- Plyometric preparation
- Low-level jumping
- Running mechanics drills
Goal:
Reintroduce running safely
Phase 4 (ACL 3 Class- June 2026)
Performance Development
6 – 9 Months
Rehabilitation begins to resemble athletic training.
Focus:
- Power development
- Change of direction
- High speed movement
Typical training includes:
- Jump training
- Acceleration drills
- Cutting mechanics
Goal:
Prepare the knee for sporting demands
Phase 5 (ACL Testing)
Return To Sport
9 – 12 Months
Before returning to sport, athletes should demonstrate:
- Strength symmetry
- Good movement control
- Confidence under load
- Passing return-to-sport testing
Goal:
Return to activity with reduced reinjury risk
Why Small Group Rehab?
Small group rehabilitation provides the benefits of both physiotherapy and structured training.
You receive:
- Ongoing guidance from an experienced physiotherapist
- Immediate feedback on technique
- A clear progression through exercises
- Accountability and consistency with rehab
- Motivation from others going through the same stage of recovery
Many patients find they progress faster and with more confidence when rehabilitation is coached rather than done alone.

ACL Rehab Class Details
Session Length: 60 minutes
Group Size: Maximum 6 participants
Eligibility: 6–16 weeks post ACL reconstruction
Location: Resync Physiotherapy, Stepaside, Dublin 18
Start with an Initial Assessment
All participants complete an initial ACL assessment before joining the program.
During this session we perform a comprehensive strength and movement evaluation using our VALD Performance testing systems, including Force Decks and Dynamo, to objectively identify where your current weaknesses are.
These tests allow us to measure:
- Quadriceps strength
- Hamstring strength
- Hip strength
- Calf strength
- Trunk control
- Lower limb power and force production
Some rehabilitation programs rely solely on isokinetic testing, which typically measures quad-to-hamstring ratios. While this information is useful, it only tells part of the story.
Successful ACL rehabilitation requires a much broader view of lower limb function. Weaknesses in the hips, calves, trunk control, or power production can all influence knee loading and movement quality.
By assessing the entire kinetic chain, we can identify the specific areas that need attention and place you in the most appropriate stage of the program — ACL1 (foundation strength) or ACL2 (strength and performance progression).
This ensures your rehabilitation is targeted, structured, and progressed appropriately for your current stage of recovery.
This ensures the class is appropriate for your stage of recovery.
Start Your ACL Recovery With Structure
Recovering from ACL surgery can feel uncertain.
A structured rehabilitation program provides clarity, progression and confidence during the most important phase of recovery.
